Ramie (Boehmeria nivea) is one of the oldest natural fibers that date as far back as Ancient Egypt. It remained so important in that part of the world that the word “ramie” is still used to denote a strong, coarse cotton-like fabric.

Today, fashion designers are showing much interest in ramie fabric due to its unique properties and accessibility. It finds application in sacks, carpets, handicrafts, nets, and a large number of other purposes.
